There really is a magic that comes from addressing somebody by name when they’re not expecting it. As Dale Carnegie said in HTWFAIP, “Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”
I decided to try this out today when I went to get lunch. The woman working at the deli didn’t seem to be in the best of moods, and to her I was just another sandwich she had to make. I took note of the fact that her nametag listed her as “Bridget D.” After she took my order, I thanked her, taking care to address her as “Mrs. Bridgett.” She looked confused for a second, then looked at her nametag, genuinely beamed at me, and then proceeded to laugh loudly. :P Glad I could do something to brighten her day a little?
Headed back to Williamsburg tonight for finals, which I have on the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. Ugh. Then I’ll be back home for Christmas and starting on the 9th. :)
Went golfing with Ryan in some miserably cold weather, but hit two pars out of nine. :)
Went to Tracy’s house, played some Pool / Monopoly / Apples to Apples / Scattergories.. I won Apples to Apples and Scattergories, Tracy won Monopoly. ^_^
Met up with Haina and Corzo for lunch yesterday at a Pho restaurant near TJ. The place wasn’t much to look at from outside, but it was really quite nice and the food was excellent, though a little tricky to eat with chopsticks. I’ve gotten better though, haha, and managed it. :D
Haircut.. Not as short as I’d like it to be, but whatever.
UVA vs. Tech football game.. I was really pulling for the Hoos, but they got absolutely wrecked unfortunately. :( Fun fact, though, the margin of defeat UVA suffered at the hands of Tech was greater than the margin of defeat W&M suffered at the hands of UVA. :P
Anyway it was great seeing the family + Tracy + Haina + Jason + Corzo + Ryan. :P Missed you guys. ^^
At Evan’s suggestion, I’ve started keeping track of my dreams in a dream journal each morning after I wake up. I can typically remember them very vividly immediately upon waking up, but as time goes on, trying to remember details becomes like trying to hold onto water. It doesn’t work. So I’ve been keeping track of them for the past couple of weeks, and I’ve noticed a disturbing trend.
They all seem to be about my deep-seated fears. Like, exclusively. Sharks are a recurring theme. So are alligators. Not cool, subconscious.
And then I’ve have several of these really weird dreams about her. In one, I was walking back from C-House at 4:00am and I passed by her. She was drunk, and with a guy, and clearly about to go have sex. And that was frighting. In another, I passed by her on the streets and stopped to talk, but she acted extremely aloof. When I kept trying to be friendly, she snapped at me and called me annoying and walked off.
Wtf is my brain doing while I’m asleep? Why does it keep manifesting my fears into dreams. Screw you, brain.
